John Decker

John Decker

I began my career at FHTC in 2011, and we established the IMD program in August 2012. I have always enjoyed teaching and have had many part-time teaching positions for the past 15 years, as well as coaching. I just thought it was the right time to move into a full-time teaching position after I finished my masters in Instructional Design and Technology. I get to teach others to create cool motion graphics on the computer. It’s like playing on the computer all day.

Before coming to FHTC, I worked as a graphic designer at Emporia State University for 19 years. During that time I have served many years as an adjunct instructor in related topics at ESU and FHTC, as well as a freelance instructional designer and documentary director for “A Welsh Farmstead: The Howe Family from 1858”. I was also a soccer coach at Emporia High School for 14 years.

In the Interactive Multimedia Design program, we train students on the latest, industry-standard technology including both Mac and PC computer platforms. Classroom projects provide hands-on, real-world problems that each student must solve in their own creative voice. We also provide many opportunities to work with real-world clients and produce projects that will actually be used by those clients.

If you like computers and have a creative mind, this is the program for you. Professionals in this industry get to take an idea and make it come to life by creating animations and video productions. Today’s consumers demand rich media content instead of just the printed word and static pictures.
